The Position
St John of God Health Care has an opportunity for a suitability qualified and experienced professional to assume the role as Coordinator, Patient Safety within Group Medical Services.
Group Medical Services has remit for safety and quality across SJGHC. As such, you will have oversight of Clinical Incidents and the corresponding Clinical Incident Management System (CIMS) for the whole of the organisation. In addition, you will lead the governance and analysis of safety data entered into the CIMS, including completion to timelines, quality, and thoroughness of investigation and closure of recommendations.
To be successful, this position will require the establishment of collaborative working relationships with divisional Quality & Risk Managers. As required, (eg for serious incidents, missed deadlines, or issues with quality) the position will also necessitate discussion and negotiation with Chief Executive Officers, Divisional Directors Medical Services and/or Divisional Directors of Nursing.
Based in either Perth or Melbourne, this role will be offered on a permanent full time basis, working 76 hours per fortnight.
The successful candidate will have:
  • A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
  • Possession of a relevant tertiary qualification in health care or related field
  • Demonstrated understanding of patient safety, systems thinking and error theory
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of incident management systems and reporting functionality
  • Understanding of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analysing datasets
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to collect, organise, analyse and disseminate large amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to undertake research activities and develop quality reports
  • Highly developed time management and organisational skills, with proven effectiveness in relation to meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work with a variable workload with minimal supervision (ie self-directed and demonstrated initiative)
  • Highly competent in computer packages (Microsoft - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and other electronic office facilities including video-conferencing)
